Trip Highlights
Upon your arrival in Delhi, Go Book Tours representative will greet you at the airport and transfer you to a comfortable hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel, then head to Haridwar. Once you arrive, check in at your hotel and freshen up. Explore Mansa Devi Temple, Chandi Devi Temple, and Daksha Mahadev Temple. Later, experience the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti at Har-ki-Pauri, where prayers are offered to the Ganga River after sunset, accompanied by floating lamps – a truly moving ritual. Return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Haridwar, located at the base of Shiva's hills (Shivaliks) in the Haridwar district of Uttaranchal Pradesh, holds historical significance. According to legend, Prince Bhagirath performed penance to save the souls of his ancestors cursed by sage Kapila. The Ganga River flowed from Lord Shiva's locks, reviving the sixty thousand sons of King Sagara. In the tradition of Bhagirath, devout Hindus come to these sacred waters, praying for the salvation of their departed elders. Haridwar is a gateway to the sources of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, nestled 3000 to 4500 meters up in the snowy ranges of the central Himalayas.
As for the weather, summers are generally hot with temperatures ranging from 35-40 degrees Celsius. In winter, days are pleasantly cool, but nights can be cold, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 5 degrees.
After enjoying your breakfast in the morning, leave for Guptkashi. Once you arrive, check in at the hotel and in the evening, explore the Ardh Narishwar Temple. Overnight stay at the hotel in Guptkashi.
Gupt Kashi, meaning "Hidden Benares," has a fascinating mythological connection. Legend has it that when the Pandava brothers sought a glimpse of Shiva, Lord Shiva initially concealed himself at Gupt Kashi. However, he later moved further up the valley to Kedarnath, where the Pandavas finally found him. Gupt Kashi also has practical ties – the hereditary pilgrimage priests of Kedarnath reside in Gupt Kashi during winter, and when the Kedarnath temple closes for the season, the image of Kedarnath passes through Gupt Kashi on its way to Ukhimath, where it stays for the winter.
As for the weather, Guptkashi is generally pleasant in summer, with temperatures ranging from 25-30 degrees Celsius. Winters, on the other hand, are cold.
Start your day with a morning drive to Phata Helipad (10 kms), from where you'll take a helicopter transfer to Kedarnath. Revel in the scenic beauty of the Kedarnath range as you visit the renowned Kedarnath Temple. Here, everyone is welcome to enter the Garbha Griha, touch the idol, and even prostrate with their head touching the deity. After the divine experience, return to Phata by helicopter and then drive back to Guptkashi. Overnight stay at the hotel in Guptkashi.
Kedarnath, home to one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, is nestled against the majestic Kedarnath range. Kedar, another name for Lord Shiva, played a pivotal role in the redemption of the Pandavas who sought his blessings after the Kurukshetra war. Legend has it that Lord Shiva eluded them and took refuge at Kedarnath in the form of a bull. As the Pandavas followed, he dived into the ground, leaving his hump on the surface. Other parts of Lord Shiva manifested at Tungnath, Rudranath, Madmaheshwar, and Kalpeshwar, forming the Panch Kedar. The sacredness of these sites is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology.
